Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1273671A1] Copper-zinc alloy contains (in wt.%) 50-80 copper, 0-5 lead, 0.01-0.10 arsenic, 0.03 to less than 0.3 silicon, 0-0.3 iron, 0-0.04 manganese, balance zinc and removable impurities. The effective copper equivalent is 60-70 wt.%. An Independent claim is also included for the production of the copper-zinc alloy comprising mixing the starting materials, melting, casting into a metallic alloy, annealing to form an alpha -phase at 500-650 degreesC and actively cooling. Preferably the alloy additionally contains 0.15-0.3 wt.% aluminum. The alloy preferably contains 0-0.02 wt.% manganese and 0.02-0.08 wt.% arsenic.
