[origin: DE10010002A1] Production of nitrated aryl polymers (I) comprises: (a) dissolving an aryl polymer in concentrated sulfuric acid at a temperature below 25 deg C; (b) adding concentrated nitric acid at a temperature below 25 deg C; and (c) precipitating the product in water. An Independent claim is also included for polyethersulfones and polyetherethersulfones of formula (II) and (III) and block copolymers of formula (IV): X = O or H; m, n = 1-100.
