Method for processing sheet material, such as banknotes and checks, whereby the individual sheets are separated, transported, tested for validity (112, 140) and sorted into valid (T2) and invalid (T1) sheets. The sorted sheets are transported into output units (130-139) dependent on the test results. If there is a process interruption the validity of the successfully tested notes (T2) is retained. An Independent claim is made for a device for sorting sheet material whereby the output units are arranged such that the rejection units (130, 131) are separate from the acceptance units.

Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung für die Bearbeitung von Blattgut, insbesondere von Wertpapieren wie Banknoten, Schecks usw. Bei der vorliegenden Erfindung wird davon ausgegangen, daß die Gültigkeit einer erfolgreichen Überprüfung von Blattgut auch nach einer Betriebsstörung unverändert vorliegt. Das Ergebnis einer Überprüfung von Blattgut, welche vor einer Betriebsstörung erfolgreich durchgeführt wurde, wird deshalb auch bei Vorliegen einer Betriebsstörung bzw. nach der Beseitigung der Betriebsstörung beibehalten. <IMAGE>
