Abstract (en)

[origin: DE10020170C1] Process for removing soot particles from the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine comprises feeding the gas through a collecting element which is provided with a number of deviations (15, 16) and/or fluidizing and quiet zones; and holding and/or fluidizing a part of the particles until there is sufficient reaction with the nitrogen dioxide in the exhaust gas for further removal of the collected particles. An Independent claim is included for a collecting element for collecting soot particles from an internal combustion engine exhaust gas comprising flow passages (13) structured to produce deviations or fluidizing zones and quiet zones. Preferred Features: The collecting element has a mixing element for uniformly distributing a reductant, especially urea. One part if the walls of the flow passages of the collecting element is coated with a washcoat of aluminum.
