Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0185652A1] The invention relates to a method for the sidechain alkylation of alkylbenzenes (I), comprising at least one alkyl sidechain with a alpha -hydrogen atom, by reaction of the alkylbenzene (I) with a monoolefin in the presence of an alkali metal catalyst, comprising a mixture of an alkali metal and an inorganic substance as support. The invention is characterised in that the inorganic substance comprises a mixture of potassium carbonate and at least one alkali metal chloride, chosen from sodium or potassium chloride. The invention further relates to a method for the production of the catalysts applied in the above method.
