[origin: EP1281483A2] Hammer drill or chisel hammer comprises a tool spindle (2), a drive motor (4), and a striking device positioned in a gearing housing (5) and having a crank mechanism (7) with a crank wheel (8) rotating about an axis. The crank wheel has a crank wheel hub (10) and a crank journal (11). A drive (12) positioned between the crank wheel hub and the drive motor acts via the drive motor on the crank mechanism. The drive consists of a conical gear wheel (15) fixed on the crank wheel hub and a conical pinion gear (16) engaging in the conical gear wheel whose rotation axes (17, 18) lie at an angle to each other. The crank wheel is over-mounted by a radial shaft bearing (20) so that it moves in a longitudinal direction restricted by an axial bearing (21) in one direction and by the conical pinion gear in the opposite direction. Preferred Features: The radial shaft bearing comprises at least one, especially a pair of needle bearings (22).
