[origin: WO0188352A1] The invention relates to a free piston motor (1) comprising a motor piston (6) which can be driven by a stepped hydraulic piston (8). The large diameter of said hydraulic piston (8) is guided in a compression cylinder (18) whereas the small diameter is located in a work cylinder (14). During the compression stroke, the compression cylinder (18) is connected to a high pressure store (30) and the work cylinder (14) is connected to a low pressure store (24) or to the high pressure store. During the expansion stroke, displacement of the pressure medium out of the cylinder chambers allows loading of the high pressure store.
