Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0186139A1] The invention relates to a method for the operation of a fuel metering system (11) on a direct injection internal combustion engine (1), comprising a fuel supply tank (12), at least one pre-supply pump (13), a high pressure pump arrangement with at least two high pressure pumps (14, 15), for pumping the fuel from the low pressure region (ND) into at least one high pressure reservoir (16; 16', 16''), a control unit (22) for regulating an injection pressure (p r) in the high pressure reservoir (16; 16', 16'') and fuel injection valves (9), for the injection of fuel from the high pressure reservoir (16; 16', 16'') into the combustion chambers (4) of the internal combustion engine (1). According to the invention, the fuel metering system (11) comprises a fuel circuit for the metering of fuel in all the combustion chambers (4) of the internal combustion engine (1) and all the high pressure pumps (14, 15) are arranged in the fuel circuit and that all the high pressure pumps (14, 15) are controlled independently of each other by means of a common pressure regulation circuit.
