[origin: WO0189859A1] The invention relates to a sheet binding system (1, 2, 3) for binding sheets in a sheet carrier, in particular for binding sheets of paper in a cover. Said system comprises a binding and fastening device for fastening at least one sheet at its edge and for indirectly fastening said sheet(s) to the sheet carrier using the binding and fastening device. According to the invention, the binding and fastening device has a retaining rod (4), which is connected to the sheet(s) and is optionally subdivided into separate sections. Said rod extends along the edge of the sheet that faces the sheet carrier.
