[origin: WO0189046A1] The invention relates to a light emitting semi-conductor component comprising a number of layers which are essentially composed of elements of groups II and VI of the periodic table, which are produced through epitaxy on a substrate, preferably InP and which include a p-doped covering layer and a n-doped covering layer having grid constants corresponding to those of the substrate. The layers also include an undoped active layer situated between the two covering layers and forming, in co-operation with the neighbouring layers, a quantum well structure, whereby the grid constant of the active layer is smaller than that of the neighbouring layers.
