[origin: WO0188506A1] The invention relates to a refractometer comprising a measuring prism on the measuring surface of which a sample to be studied can be applied. Said sample can be illuminated by means of a light beam produced by a light source under such an angle range that the critical angle for total reflection is contained in said range. The refractometer also comprises a receiver for receiving the reflected light, an optical element decomposing said reflected light into a colour spectrum being placed in the beam path of the reflected light, between the measuring surface and the receiver.
