Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0191103A2] A novel musical instrument (101) comprises at least one tunable string (102), a holding device (130) for holding the at least one string (102), an electrically or electronically operated excitation device (116, 116') for contactlessly exciting the at least one string (102), a sound-producing body (108) for acoustically emitting the vibration of the string, and an interface (113) for delivering a signal for the excitation device (116, 116'), whereby the signal is produced independently from the at least one string (102). The excitation device (116, 116') permits the excitation of string vibrations with sufficiently large amplitudes so that the sound-producing body (108) can emit tones with sound levels located at least in the range of known acoustic string instruments. A bridge (112) is placed between the sound-producing body (108) and the at least one string (102) in order to transfer the vibrations of the string to the sound-producing body (108). The electroacoustic musical instrument (101) has the quality of resonance capability or of discrete overtones, and permits a synthesis of the acoustic sound beauty with electronic versatility.
