[origin: EP1286320A2] Alarm system (1) functionality is detected in the range of detection of the sensor (2). Gas or smoke are simulated by a medium, using a concentration profile other than that normally causing alarm. The concentration measurement signal from the sensor is put through a first, conventional filter, preferably of low-pass configuration. It is then subjected to a second filtering operation to detect the concentration pattern produced in the test. On its detection, an alarm state is registered. <??>An Independent claim is included for the corresponding alarm and test equipment.
