[origin: EP1288360A1] A textile multi-needle flatbed knitting machine has two opposed beds of needles which operate in esp. a split-stitch process to form a split mesh extending over one or more needles. Using the split-stitch the foundation mesh (40) is looped around the free needle (5) in the facing bed (3), followed by the formation of a split mesh (10) as the start-loop with the needle (4) which previously bore the foundation mesh (40). This process is followed by movement of the thread guide (60) past the needle (4) with the starting mesh (10). The foundation mesh (40) transferred to the needle bed is looped around the needle on the same side within the same needle bed. The needle is then expelled with the foundation mesh into the knitted position.
