Abstract (en)
An antiballistic article (10) including a monolithic ceramic plate (12), an antiballistic backing material (14) affixed to the ceramic monolith (12), and an outer shell (16), formed of an antiballistic material including a curable resin, enclosing the backing (14) and ceramic monolith (12), the curable resin being cured after and while the enclosed backing (14) and ceramic monolith (12) are maintained under isostatic pressure of at least about 10 atmospheres, whereby the compression stresses and bonding mechanism serve to "arrest" the part after the external pressure is released, and a method of forming such an article (10). <IMAGE>
