[origin: EP1291197A2] The gather-stitcher has at least one sensor (14) for determining the position of the product being stitched. The sensor(s) are/is positioned immediately in front of the stitcher, in the direction of the gather-chain's (13) travel. An evaluation unit compares the actual position with the expected position of the product being stitched. A control unit feeds any deviation in position as a regulating variable of at least one drive unit.
