[origin: EP1293136A1] The production machine for the tobacco industry, to produce continuous covered cylindrical lengths of hard filter materials or tobacco, has a format unit with side guide surfaces linked together by a curved guide surface. The guide surfaces form a contour (38) on a plane at right angles to the direction of material movement through the unit. At least one side guide surface is asymmetrical before it reaches a vertical orientation.
