[origin: EP1295718A1] A drivable roller (33) is provided prior to a first printing unit (1), and comprises a number of axially parallel recesses (36) in its outer surface, and one or more blanket covers (34). The spacing between the roller and the surface of the counter-pressure cylinder (8) is adjustable. The surface speed of the driven roller and the counter cylinder (8) is synchronized so that in every operating state of the printing machine, the recesses in the roller and the counter cylinder always pass exactly.
