Abstract (en)
A vehicle traffic monitoring central control unit (2) installable along a road section (3) and having a first and a second infrared sensor (7) supplying respective presence signals (Sp) indicating the passage of a vehicle (4) along the road section (3); a clock circuit (8) for supplying a clock signal (STIM) indicating the instant at which passage of the vehicle (4) past each infrared sensor (7) occurs; a processing circuit (9) for processing the presence signals (Sp) and the clock signal (STIM) to obtain a number of information items relating to passage of the vehicle (4) along the road section (3), and for supplying an information signal (SA) containing such information items; and a transmitting device (10) for transmitting the information signal (SA) over a communication network (5) to a remote processing unit (6) for forecasting road traffic along the road section (3). <IMAGE>
