[origin: WO0189403A1] The invention relates to an electrode configuration for a surgical instrument used for the electrothermal coagulation of human or animal tissue, comprising a longitudinal carrier with at least two electrodes running along the carrier, said electrodes being connected to an external alternating voltage. Several self-supporting metallic profiled rod sections run along the carrier. Said rods are connected to each other by means of one or several insulating spacing elements, and form the electrodes. At least one profiled rod section is embodied as a hollow profile or a solid profile.
