Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0202498A1] The invention concerns a method for producing a non-fatty softener with molecular weight less than about 600 dalton, preferably less than about 550 dalton, more preferably still less than about 450 dalton, based on alcohol and fatty acid esters (wax-esters), comprising the following steps: a) interesterification of triglycerides of a fat, with a primary alcohol, in the presence of a catalyst; b) eliminating the catalyst; c) distilling the residual alcohol preferably in the presence of a decolorant, and eliminating the decolorant; and d1) either winterizing the residue preferably discoloured, so as to crystallise at least partly the residual glycerides, then eliminating said crystallised residual triglycerides; or d2) hydrogenating the residue, preferably discoloured.
