Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0201056A1] An internal combustion engine, in particular for a motor vehicle, is disclosed, in which the fuel may be injected into a combustion chamber in a weak operating mode and a rich operating mode, whereby it is possible to switch between the two modes. A mass of air (ML,mager) and an injection amount (ME,mager) may be continuously determined for the weak operating mode by a controller. A lambda value ( lambda mager) for the weak operating mode may be continuously determined from the air mass and the injection amount. A lambda value ( lambda zwischen) different from the lambda value for the weak operating mode for the rich operating mode and the transition thereto may be pre-set. A set air mass (ML,Soll) for the rich operating mode and the transition thereto may be determined from the lambda for the weak operating mode and the lambda for the rich operating mode and the transition thereto.
