[origin: EP1297894A2] The ionizer provides electrical charging of solid or liquid particles contained in the air via a number of spray electrode wires (4), extending parallel to one another perpendicular to the air flow direction, with sheet metal walls (1) between them defining air flow channels, each having a spray electrode at its center. The opposing sheet metal walls are bent outwards to form a widened channel section on one side of each spray electrode wire.
