Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0200465A1] The invention relates to a safety seat for means of transport, especially racing cars, comprising a seat (2) and the back of a seat (4). The back of the seat (4) comprises a container (20) filled with a pressurised medium, the walls (22) of said container being deformable when acted on by a force. The container (20) comprises at least one valve (40, 42) which opens when the pressurised medium reaches a pre-determined pressure level, so that the pressurised medium can escape. In the event of a rear collision, the container (20) deforms plastically and the pressurised medium (26) escapes through the valves (40, 42). A large proportion of the kinetic energy of the accelerated body is thereby destroyed, so that the person does not rebound off the back of the seat so strongly. The shooting forward of the head, in contrast to the rest of the body which is held by the safety belts, is reduced in such a way that the person does not run the risk of suffering from whiplash or even fractures of the 3<rd> to 6<th> cervical vertebrae.
