Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0204763A1] The invention relates to a cork surface covering, in particular suitable for use as a cork floor covering, consisting of individual tiles (1) or strips which can be assembled and laid in a modular manner. Said covering comprises a cork layer (11) that is connected to a support layer (2). The cork layer (11) constitutes the surface of the floor covering or surface covering that is immediately accessible and visible. According to the invention, the cork layer (11) consists of cork pieces (3, 19, 21), which are punched directly from the cork tree bark, or produced from the waste or reject pieces that accumulate during the production of sealing corks (5), or from used sealing corks (5) that have been collected for recycling, said pieces being applied onto the support layer (2, 14) in a closely-packed manner and subsequently, or after the tiles (1) or strips have been laid, being abraded to a uniform height. Interstices (9) between the cork pieces (3, 19, 21) or sealing corks (5) can be filled with a filler material.
