[origin: EP1300360A1] The penultimate chain link (1a) in the load section (5) of the chain is received by a slot (13) in between the claw jaws (12), this slot being open on the load section side. The load-transmitting final chain link (1b) in the load section of the chain is in contact with the two jaws. <??>A stopper device, especially a shortening load-engaging hook for chains, especially round link chains, comprises a hook with a shortening claw connected to it. The claw divides the chain into a load section and a blank section (6), both of which have a variable length. The claw has a fastener head (11) for receiving the claw end of the load section of the chain and this claw has at least two jaws defining a slit in between.
