Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0210054A1] Longitudinal movements of escalators occur during earthquakes, which can move a bearing support (6) to an excessive degree out of the bearing region and cause the collapse of the escalator. Cables (14) which serve as safety elements limit the displacement of the bearing support (6) in the bearing region and prevent collapse of the escalator. The cables (14) are pre-fitted at the factory to fixtures (15) arranged on the support (5). The cables (14) when in situ are, for example, drawn through drillings (16) on the building support (8) and looped over a cable beam (17). The free end of the cable (14) is fixed by means of cable clamps (18). The cable beam (17) is arranged on the building corbel (19). Should the building corbel not resist the load in the case of a catastrophe, the cable beam (17) is stopped by the drillings (16), preventing collapse of the escalator.
