Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1304407A2] To control the braking action on a weft yarn (4), between the supply bobbin (1,2) and the yarn store (11) at a shuttleless loom, the braking force at the weft brake (5) is set to give a constant yarn tension in the windings around the yarn store. The weft brake is controlled through a yarn tension sensor (10), which passes the yarn tension measurements to a control unit (14) to set the yarn brake accordingly. A sensor (3) at the bobbins registers the change from an empty bobbin to a replacement full bobbin, to activate the control to set an initial and adjustable braking level at the yarn brake. The weft brake is a leaf spring, or a brake which takes the weft in a loop around it.
