Abstract (en)

In a flexible-cable transmission for transmitting to a unit (26) of a motor vehicle such as a clutch or a brake unit, the controls imparted by the driver of the vehicle by means of a remote-control member (25), the automatic adjustment device (10) is arranged to be mounted directly on the flexible cable (12) or on the sheath (11) within which the cable (12) is slidable. The device (10) comprises: a spring (24) which can deform as a result of settling of the transmission and/or of wear in the unit (26) to be operated, one or more position sensors (34) for detecting the deformation of the spring (24) and for making available a signal indicative of the deformation, an electronic control unit (33) for receiving and processing the deformation signal coming from the sensor (34) in order to generate a control signal, and an actuator unit (30) for receiving the control signal and moving a movable element (19) of the device (10) co-operating with the sheath (11) or with the flexible cable (12) so as to compensate for the effect of settling and/or wear, keeping the tensile force in the cable (12) at a constant and predetermined value. <IMAGE>
