Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0186690A1] A photomultiplier tube for expanding a fixing area of a bypass at a light receiving plate while increasing an effective utilization area of the light receiving plate, a photomultiplier tube unit, and a performance-improved radiation detector. The photomultiplier tube has a side surface (3c) of a light receiving plate (3) stuck outward beyond an outer wall surface (2b) of a metal bypass (2) to allow the light receiving plate (3) to project sideward beyond the bypass (2), thereby expanding a light capturing area from a light receiving surface (3d) of the light receiving plate (3). This projecting structure of the light receiving plate (3) is implemented based on a glass refractive index and designed to capture as much as possible light that has not be able to be received up to now into a photoelectric surface (3a). In addition, when using a fusion technique to join glass to metal in fixing the metal bypass (2) and the glass light receiving plate (3), the projecting structure of the light receiving plate (3) is very effective for supporting a positiveness at joining the plate (3) to the bypass (2).
