Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0212685A1] The invention relates to a piston engine comprising deactivatable mechanically actuated gas exchange valves, which are each actuated by at least one camshaft via a roller idler arm (5). Said roller idler arm is comprised of two partial arms (5.1, 5.2), which are pivotally interconnected via a joint arbor (6), on which the roller (7) that is in contact with a cam (8) of the camshaft is rotatably mounted. A switchable locking means (13) is also provided, which operates between both partial arms (5.1, 5.2) and via which the transmission of force between the camshaft and the gas exchange value can be activated or deactivated. The free end of one partial arm (5.1) is supported on the gas exchange valve (2), and a support is provided on the engine block for the free end of the other partial arm.
