[origin: WO0211165A1] The invention relates to a safety switch (40) for safely switching off an electric consumer (42), especially an electrically driven machine. The inventive switch comprises an error-protected switch-off unit (48) and a monitoring unit (54) which both can be jointly provided with an external control signal (UB). Said switch-off unit switches the electric consumer (42) off in an error-protected manner on the basis of a defined signal status of the control signal (UB). The monitoring unit (54), in accordance with said defined signal status, generates an external monitoring signal (58; UM). The switch-off unit (48) is provided with a first delay element (44, 46) with which the switch-off of the consumer (42) is delayed by a first interval (T1). The invention is further characterized in that the monitoring unit (54) is a non-error-protected unit that provides a non-error-protected monitoring signal (58; UM) at an output (56) of the switch (40).
