[origin: WO0212778A1] The invention relates to a method and device for filling a tank with natural gas. In order to avoid the inadvertent filling of a liquid tank, which is arranged to withstand a significantly lower pressure than a natural gas tank, in place of a natural gas tank, a particular filling process is disclosed. According to the invention, the tank is filled to a pressure somewhat above the opening pressure of a safety valve on a liquid tank. A holding phase is then maintained. Should the gas pressure sink during said holding phase then the tank concerned is erroneously a liquid tank and not a natural gas tank. Under these circumstances the filling process is terminated.
