[origin: EP1310278A2] Roller skate comprises a shoe (2) fixed on a roller support (6) and a number of rollers (8, 10, 12, 14) rotatably arranged behind each other in the direction of travel (A). A long guide element (32) on which at least one brake block (34) is arranged slides in and against the direction of travel. An operating organ (20) sliding the guide element is arranged within the shoe and operated by the user's toes. The guide element slides from a first position in which the rollers freely rotate into a second position in which the brake block lies on one of the rollers. The guide element slides into the second position in the direction of travel and the brake shoe lies on the roller so that the resulting frictional force at least partly supports the sliding of the guide element.
