[origin: EP1314668A2] The machine for the transport of strip materials (1), and especially cigarette paper, has a moving tensioner (8,10) to deflect the paper path and keep the paper taut. The drive (12) for the tensioner applies a force on it at a constant level, independently of its position. The paper tension control (2) sets the operation of the tensioner drive so that its position and the driving force are independent of each other to maintain a constant paper tension. The driving force is reduced on detection of a paper irregularity, e.g. an adhesive join, and the tensioner position is set according to the speed of paper travel.
