[origin: EP1314882A1] The cavity in the piston plate and the section of the piston (3) inside this cavity have a larger cross-section than an adjoining section of the piston in the direction away from the piston plate. <??>The pump (1) is used to supply fuel to injection systems for internal combustion machinery, especially common rail injection systems, and comprises a drive shaft (2) and at least two pistons which are movable by the shaft in order to compress the fuel. A piston plate between the shaft and pistons contains a cavity in which a section of the piston is located.
