[origin: EP1318236A2] The assembly (1) to polish the surface of a paper or cardboard web has a heated polishing cylinder (2), and a running path for the web (5) around the major part of the cylinder surface. A shoe roller (11,11a,11b,18) is at a given segment of the cylinder circumference, each with a flexible recirculating mantle (12), pressed against the cylinder by a support shoe structure (14). The mantles form a wide nip (17,20) for the web against the cylinder. A vapor extraction zone (22) is after each nip, and a heater (21) is in front of the first nip to heat the belt (19) of the first shoe unit.
