A security system for a sliding door or window has the overlapping edges of two panels clamped together via profiled grips in the closed position. The profiles comprise metal cores firmly attached to the frames and plastic mouldings fitted over the metal cores. The plastic mouldings provide thermal and acoustic insulation. The interlocking profiles are similar and include voids for lightness and for added insulation. The metal cores can be aluminium or aluminium alloy. The plastic fittings can be separate components or can be extruded with the metal cores.
