Apparatus for starting and stopping curtain coating process of a movable substrate especially for high-speed coating of a continuous paper web substrate (12) wherein a substrate (12) is moved below a movable hopper arrangement (14) providing one or more liquid coating materials in the form of a free-falling curtain (16) impinging the substrate (12) at a dynamic wetting line, and wherein a collecting pan (24) is provided.
