Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1320183A2] A method of starting an electric brushless rotating machine is provided which enables the rotor (12) to produce a large power of startup torque with no use of any rotor position detectors. At Steps S1 and S2, a first and a second initial magnetization respectively are carried out for shifting the rotor (12) at its free pausing state by forced commutation to a desired location to start the forward rotation at the maximum torque. At Step S3, the energization at single-phase is conducted with the rotor (12) and the stator having a positional relationship for permitting generation of the maximum torque after the forced commutation or the second the initial magnetization. An induced voltage at the not-energized phase is measured by the forced commutation and used for determining the location of the rotor (12). Step S4 follows where a normal action of the energization is carried out. <IMAGE>
