Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0227100A1] The invention relates to a floor covering element (2) with a square base form. An indentation (8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.4) is provided on all four base sides, each indentation being symmetrical in relation to a middle axis of symmetry (12). Opposite indentations are mirror images of each other. Each indentation is complementary to the indentations on the two base sides that are joined by a corner. A projection (24) is provided in each of the four corner areas of the floor covering element, this projection being essentially in the shape of a right-angled isosceles triangle or a surface element similar to such a triangle with bent sides. The removal of the four projections (24) results in a floor covering element of a second type (42) which can be laid together with other floor covering elements of the second type (42) or together with floor covering elements of the first type (2).
