Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1321568A2] A splice in a multi-strand wire cable includes plastic support strands (6) that are inserted between adjacent wire strands (2). The plastic strands deform to take up the space between the wire strands and prevent chafing, especially when cable is bent while passing over pulleys. Independent claims are also included for: (1) the process of inserting support strands where the wire strands are pushed apart by shaped rollers (7), which have a groove (9) and a concave flank (10), so that the plastic strand can be inserted. A split frame carries three rollers and strand supply reels, and is turned by hand to move in a spiral path along the cable splice. The process is then repeated for the other three strands.; and (2) the apparatus for carrying it out.
