Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0221061A1] The invention concerns a method for heating metallurgical products which consists in heating solid products, in particular steel so as to bring them from a temperature substantially lower than 400 DEG C to a temperature at least about 1000 DEG C by being passed in a furnace comprising an upstream zone wherein said products are preheated and a downstream zone wherein said products are brought to their final furnace output temperature, the downstream zone being equipped with burners some of which at least operate with an oxidiser which is air, the fumes generated by said burners circulate counter-current to the products and hence preheat the latter in the upstream preheating zone. The invention is characterised in that it consists in providing at least one burner in the upstream preheating zone of the furnace, said burner being supplied with a mixture of oxidiser and fuel, the oxidiser containing more than 20 % and preferably more than 30 % by volume of oxygen.
