Abstract (en)

Apparatus for grinding and sharpening card clothing has elements, with an elastic pliability, which pass over the clothing points for grinding and sharpening them. The grinding elements are supported at the end sides of the clothing sections. Dust and particles generated by the grinding action are extracted by suction (23), over the whole clothing (14) width, which generates an air stream (L) through and at the grinding point. The apparatus is mounted to the card frame, to grind and sharpen the card clothing. It has a number of grinders, which penetrate between the clothing points, and has a control to give it an intermittent action. The control sets a grinding cycle so that each revolving flat is sharpened a number of times, preferably 1-5 times. The grinder can be at a mobile maintenance unit, which is taken to each carding machine as required. A lifting mechanism moves the clothing carrier (13) towards the grinder unit (42). The clothing carrier (13) is a revolving flat, and is lifted towards the grinder (42) by a path surface (31,32) which deflects the flat movement. The path deflection can be adjusted and varied. A limit surface (70) sets an adjustable penetration depth of the clothing (14) at the grinder (42).
