Abstract (en)

[origin: WO03005892A2] The invention relates to a method and a device for recognizing caries, plaque, concrements or bacterial attacks, wherein a radiation is generated with the aid of a light source. Said radiation is directed at a tooth to be examined and provokes a reflective radiation in said tooth. The reflective radiation is detected with a detecting device and then evaluated. The radiation is advantageously carried out with two or more spectral ranges, wherein the measured reflection intensities of the two spectral ranges are correlated as characteristic values indicating the existence of caries, plaque, concrements or bacterial attack. This can also be supported by evaluating fluorescence radiation.
