[origin: EP1331400A2] Side channel pump comprises two parallel pump channels (24a, 24b), and a pump wheel (12) having two parallel half-channels (28a, 28b) separated from each other by a channel separating wall (34). The half-channels each have pump chambers (32a, 32b) arranged behind each other in the peripheral direction. The pump chambers are connected together by pressure equalization openings (36) and are formed by paddle walls (30) lying at an angle of 10degrees to the one side. Preferred Features: The opening width of the pressure equalization openings is less than 2/5 of the channel separating wall width. The ratio of the surface of the channel separating wall to the surface of the pressure equalization openings is less than 0.3.
