Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1332792A1] Low-density glass or ceramic micro-balloons are esp. mixed with a suitable solvent in a process to prepare paint or a coating system for application. The solvent, e.g. water, binds the micro-balloons by adhesive forces in a suitable charge which is admixed to the paint pigment or coating agent by a retailer or end-user. The admixture of solvent forms a uniform suspension and minimises separation arising from density differences. In the process, only the micro-balloon outer surface is spray-wetted. The adhesive force is regulated by the degree of wetting. The spray application of solvent to micro-balloons minimises the escape of micro-balloons as dust to the atmosphere.
