[origin: WO0228671A1] A low profile chassis and suspension system (98, 98', 98", 398, 498, 598, 698) for a road vehicle. The chassis includes a largely planar frame (116) having a top suspension system is particularly compact and close to the road surface. A trailing arm-type wheel support (100) supports a stub axle (114) in a cantilevered fashion. A spring urges (133) the wheel support apart from the frame. A planar portion of the wheel support (100), the wheel support pivot joints (108, 110), and the spring (133) are located beneath the rotational axis (158) of the wheel.
