[origin: DE10056863C1] The fuel injection method uses a central control device (1) for controlling fuel pre-injection for the engine cylinders (7) by operation of the fuel injection valves (2) in a given serial sequence during the start phase, with subsequent switching to normal sequential fuel injection. The fuel quantity for the pre-injection is determined from the serial sequence and the expected air filling of each engine cylinder, e.g. the expected revs during the suction phase of the engine cylinder.
