[origin: EP1336680A2] A rotary textile or paper web stretcher drum has a shaft (3) with a flexible mantle (5) and a first array of helical grooves commencing (7A, 9A) near the center (M) and proceeding left and right (7, 9) to the periphery. The drum especially has a second set of helical grooves (13, 15) commencing at points (13A, 15A) which are axially transposed (X, Y) to the first set (7A, 9A), and terminating at the drum ends (5L, 5R). The first set of grooves (7, 9) increase in pitch towards the drum ends. The second set of helical grooves (13, 15) commence no later than in-line with the fifth rotational point of the first set of grooves, preferably between the first and third. The first and second sets of helical grooves are parallel to each other.
